4 out of 5 stars Great product   March 9, 2010
Michael (Annapolis, MD)
After my myfi had mostly died, I had stopped listening to xm for the last few months. Then I got this for my birthday, and it has seriously wowed me. The fm transmitter is better than most (although, I do still have to change stations once during my daily 30 mile commute). It plays both the xm radio (through the xm app) as well as music/podcasts (through the ipod's music app). The interface is pretty elegant. I think my only requests would be for xm to put in a way to record the satellite broadcast (which the myfi had), however, this may be a restriction of apple rather than xm's. My second request would be for them to develop a home unit as well. I tried contacting xm customer service about these requests and totally got the run around, so that's a big part of why they lost a star.

2 out of 5 stars Noise Distortion   March 3, 2010
W. Piontek (NC, USA)
Works wonderful in its functionality.
Ipod touch and XM app are brilliant.

Setup was a breeze.
Get an extra antenna and you can move it between vehicles.

HOWEVER: there is a constant noise distortion.
I've tried 2 different units
Two different cars
I use AUX input, not FM transmission
Every time there is a constant buzzing/static THROUGH the XM unit.
It is not the satellite reception OR the Ipod

Example:
-I plug my ipod directly into AUX input, listen to an mp3 and it sounds crystal.
-I then plug the ipod into skydock and plug skydock into AUX and listen to the SAME mp3, there's like 30% background distortion.
UNITS need noise filter improvement.

SOUNDS kinda sux
FUNCTION is brilliant

If it matters, both cars were BMWs: 07 Z4, 09 3-series

3 out of 5 stars Electronic Whine   February 16, 2010
L. Kent
The concept for this product is amazing. You can play your iPod Touch through the dock, keep it charged and listen to XM radio. It is easy to use and organizes your favorite XM channels easily. Now for the bad news. . I used it with a direct connection to the auxiliary port in my car stereo (the preffered connection method). As soon as I started the car it made a loud and obnoxious whining noise that got louder as I accelerated. I returned that Sky dock and received a replacement. The new Sky Dock worked perfectly for the first few weeks and now the whining noise is starting to develop again. It isn't an issue if you connect through the radio but that is less than ideal since in my area you have to change the frequency often. I guess I'll have to use a FM Direct Adapter but that is just added expense and installation hassle (which in a Navigator is huge). I've hooked up the IPod from the same lighter plug to the same stereo using different hardware with no noise which unfortunately narrows the problem down to the SkyDock. And to add insult to injury, XM wants to charge you a $15.00 activation fee each time you get a replacement SkyDock. If it wasn't for the electronic whine this product would receive a solid 5 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Fine, but!   February 12, 2010
Larry L. Reed
The device works fine but it is fragile and broke easily and had to be returned for a replacement After you get the replacement you have to get XM to remove the old ID and enter the new ID, etc, etc. You get the idea.

This product works great, really easy to use and makes having XM in your car simple. Works like a charm!
