Best of all the Wi-fi's August 30, 2010 Joseph Michael Kornfeld I own three Squeeze box Touch Radios, one Squeezebox Boom and a Squeezebox Bedside radio. These have replaced other wi-fi radios throughout our house, and other than the odd bit of quirkiness, they are all terrific. I had occasion to contact Logitech customer service a couple of times. They were responsive and helpful. Problem solved quickly. Sometimes the "touch" radios turn themselves off right after being turned on, but once being turned on again they work fine. When the radios have to be re-booted, it is a quick process (some other brands take forever and require re-entering the network password) Also, accessing stations is a breeze. All in all highly recommended.
New Logitech Squeezebox Fan August 27, 2010 CC (CA) After starting out with my first Logitech Squeezebox Boom and loving it, I stopped using my Bose Wave Radio / CD units (there was simply no more need to listen to CDs or FM radio) and the Boom sounded just as good. However I felt I still had to get some use out of the Bose Wave Radio / CD systems so I tried the SB Touch and with a 3.5mm to RCA cable to the Bose AUX port.
The Squeezebox Touch Interface is great with the Remote Control and the color and touch capabilities are cool. The Napster / Pandora, etc.. content sounds great being piped through the Bose Audio System. I was happy to stil put those units to good use now.
I did notice like any WIFI product that if the WIFI signal is weak the SB Touch would just freeze up & shut off the audio. I would often have to unplug it and plug it back in again to reset it. Especially of course if a nearby Microwave oven would knock it out the WIFI signal and it would not recover on its own, so had to reset it again. I fixed this for the time being by hooking it up via ethernet connection and bypassing the WIFI. Everything works fine!
This unit is easy to set up and if you already have a great sounding Home Theater or Audio System to piple Internet Music through, then this is the way to go!
Great product! August 24, 2010 John Helmus (New York, NY USA) I previously had owned a Squeezebox 3 and was looking to upgrade my hardware. I kept reading in the forums that this product was going to be what I was looking for since the DAC was supposed to be of higher quality and the fact that it handled higher resolution files (it now plays back 24/96 files). I made the purchase and I was not disappointed. The setup for me was pretty simple since I already had the software on my computer--I had music playing in 5 minutes. I only gave 4 stars since for some people the setup might be more complicated starting from scratch--but I would highly recommend this product--it is well built and for users who have Macs or PCs that use iTunes to manage their music, this is a really great product and a good value compared to Sonos.
Wireless music from my computer to my quality sound system August 12, 2010 G. Milczarek (Eureka Springs, AR USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At last my huge music store can be played with digital quality through my quality sound system without needing wires. Big deal after much frustration with other attempts.
Disappointing when I try to stream music from the Internet as my tethered cell phone connection lacks the band width. Oh well.
Tedious making playlists with the Touch until I figured out I could make playlists easily in Windows Media Player and then save the playlist in the format needed for the Touch through a drop-down choice in the save playlist control of Media Player.
essential July 31, 2010 bullethead (Staten Island, New York USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been a fan of the Squeezebox product line since they were made in the USA by Slimdevices.
This is essential for any music lover. I have it hooked up to my DAC using the S/PDIF digital out and control everything with my android phone. Got all my music ripped to FLAC and also have a few 24/96 albums which this device plays flawlessly. This is the most least expensive transport I have but the most essential. The interface is easy to use, the touch screen responds well, but the most important thing is the sound quality. The Touch runs an embedded Linux and has ALSA doing the playback as one would expect. You can fiddle around by sshing into the device to modify it using software hacks which also means this thing is future proof. The server and firmware are open source so as long as this thing lasts physically it will definitely adapt to the future.
Internet radio is amazing, there's millions of channels to listen to. As I said add in the 24 bit 96 khz lossless file support which is flawless and you have one excellent investment for your stereo system. The Logitech team did a fantastic job on this product. It's minimal, functional and world class. I can't say enough good things about it. The unit sounds really close to my Bel Canto CD-2 cd transport, just a tad on the dark side like is common with Mark Levinson components, so it might actually be a tad bit better than my $3K cd transport for 1/10th the price.
