Excellent unit until the backlight failed just after a year July 14, 2010 dmullinsjr As the title states this unit was excellent until yesterday (July 12, 2010 just a year out of warranty) when the backlight started flickering. Now the unit must be in direct sunlight to see the display. It is unfortunate that Audiovox has not taken responsibility for this issue as it seems to be widespread. The unit continues to work, however without the backlight is usefulness is limited. As others have said it would be best to find another unit to listen to XM.
Great until the backlight went out. July 3, 2010 B. Fox I bought this unit about a year and a half ago. I thought it was great until the backlight went out last week. Apparently this is a common problem. It still works but I can't see anything on the screen. It's very frustrating. For the price, you would think that it would last longer then 16 months. So, I can't recommend buying this unit.
Loved the features, but backlight failed after 15 months. June 18, 2010 M. Joss (Richmond, VA USA) I have had this unit for 15 months, and it was great until the backlight failed. Of course it was just a few months after the warranty expired. It appears, from the other reviews, that this is a common problem. Too bad, because I liked the color screen and split-screen features. I didn't use the built-in recorder too often, but I liked the ability to have alerts for artists in addition to individual songs. It would be 5/5 with better reliability on the backlight.
No problems here June 2, 2010 Ken Gilbert I bought this with the Audiovox XMAS100 XM Compact Sound System on Mar 26, 2010.
I love it and have had only one problem that was easily fixed: It would not turn on. Unplugging everything fixed it.
I only have a couple of small issues:
1. Volume increase and decrease levels are a little too much and could be in smaller increments.
2. Sport game alerts beep and then disappear after about 2 seconds never to be seen again. If your not quick to look you never know what the beep was for and I have not been able to figure out how to retrieve the alerts.
3. Setting the sleep function requires too many steps: Press menu ... Scroll to Time Set ... Press XM button ... Scroll to Sleep Function ... Press XM button ... Set sleep time desired ... Press XM button. Also maximum sleep time is only 60 minutes. Would like 120.
Sound with the Audiovox XMAS100 XM Compact Sound System is fantastic. No treble or base adjustments. Very impressive though. Fills the room with no distortion.
Highly recommended.
Backlight fails April 10, 2010 lymestar45 (Las Vegas, NV, USA) I liked this radio well enough, but the backlight failed on it the other day, just a few days after the one-year warranty expired. Now the display is so dim I can't read it and will have to replace it. Exact same thing happened to my boyfriend's Xpress-RC radio, again right when the one-year warranty was up (luckily he purchased from Best Buy and bought an extended warranty- not a bad idea). This time I will be doing the research and buying a radio that will hopefully last longer.
