Radar Detector Visor Clip August 28, 2010 Dave 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Did not fit my new Whisler Radar Detector so I am not able to use it.
Not using it! July 24, 2010 Ji Seo (SOUTH ORANGE, NJ, US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When you insert the clip into the RD. Then try to install or hook onto your visor. I crushess the buttons and it makes the screen of the RD not visible. Good try but not useful. Sorry!
Raise your stealth... July 12, 2010 Paul Mark Provencher (Morgantown, WV USA) This is a simple device. It places your detector on your visor. This does two things:
1. For X, K, and Ka band, should extend the range of your detector (while unfortunately affecting Laser detection)
2. Reducing the visibility of your detector...
While laser radar is on the increase, I have found my detector still detects laser in time to matter, even when visor-mounted. I have up to 2 mile detection range with my BEL Driver STi mounted on my visor - pretty incredible range. Your Mileage May Vary.
The other day I was in Virginia (Radar Detectors Illegal) and I forgot to remove my detector from the windshield mount I use in my other vehicle and *BAM* I was stopped for having a detector. How could they miss it? It was smack in the middle of my windshield... I was fortunate that it was not connected to power and the officer gave me a warning with a reminder that the power source cannot be within reach.
This prompted me to get a second clip so I can mount the detector on the visor in my second vehicle and avoid even the appearance of being a scofflaw in those places where an easily seen detector might trigger unwanted interest.
Works fine on my Scion TC Visor May 24, 2010 PLE I've had my Escort 8500 for a couple of years now. The windshield mounting suction cups that come with the unit are really horrible. I can't figure out why they are included with such an expensive radar detector. What I WAS doing was velcroing the front of the detector to the top of my rear-view mirror and using the suction cups to prop up the back. But, evey so often, if the car got too hot, I'd find the detector on the car floor. The mirror would loosen and even the velcro glue came off. Other times, if it was too cold, the back of the detector would be dangling and the front would be connected to the velcro.
So, this last time it happened, I decided to search for alternatives. I saw the "Escort 0010027-1 Supercup Windshield Mount (Black)" and thought about making my own from an old mount I had from a Sirius Radio suction mount. This actually worked OK, but, because the detector had to be mounted on the bottom, the suction mount would actually block the vision of the detector from the road. Plus, there was no quick-release, since it was double taped on.
This suction unit works by plugging in to the top of the detector. The detector hangs from the mount giving it full front and rear vision. It is easy to remove when the vehicle is parked. But, what I'm not crazy about, is that it is very obvious that there is a radar dector on the windshield. So, although it works fine, I am a little torn between this and the "Escort 57-000027 Visor Clip Mount for Radar and Laser Detectors". Since I had to spend another $5 for free shipping, I purchased this at the same time for $6.00. It also works great. But, it is hard to see the readings on the front of the detector, makes the visor un-useable, and the buttons hard to use. On the plus side, it hides the detector from site.
So, bottom line, I have not decided which I like best. For now, I am using this suction cup mount, because I really do like it better. It all boils down to whether or not I want to continually have to hide the detector in the glove box or not, I guess. As another reviewer points out, this $20 device (and the $6 visor mount for that matter) should have been included with the Escort in the first place. If you are buying an Escort, just get both of these items.
It works May 21, 2010 J. Bello The clip is advertised for the escort but it works with the BEL V940. It slips right on, locks into place and allows you to clip to the visor or the headliner which is the position I like best. It keeps the detector close to the roof and out of the way.
