3 out of 5 stars Good sound but...   January 25, 2010
Marie Sandland
Initially thought the sound was too tinny but adjusted the settings on my mp3 player and was pleasantly surprised. The spongy earphones were for the most part comfortable though I found them a little loose.

There were however a couple of problems: 1) the cord is far too long and keeps catching on door handles, bike handles, anything and everything. The mute button which I thought was handy initially is a complete pain! The slightest touch and the music goes. After a few weeks the sound in the right headphone went sporadically and eventually the mute button came apart when I was trying to fix this problem and I was unable to fix it again. A shame because for the price the sound was really good, but the design needs some tweaking.

1 out of 5 stars Awful   January 20, 2010
Jeffrey Fitzgerald (UK)
I was really happy when I received these headphones, they were comfortable and had pretty good sound quality for cheap headphones. I wore them for a whole day at work and every time I bent over slightly or moved my arms above the shoulder the mute button on the cord would cut the music I was listening to, and then the button wouldn't reset on its own so i would have to pull it back out manually. I tried tying the cord up to find a better position and that didn't work. Finally by the time I got home that day the mute button had failed completely and I was getting intermittent sound through each headphone. So these apparently hard headphones were ruined after 1 days wear. RUBBISH

3 out of 5 stars Good value, good for commuting   December 27, 2009
J. S. Hardman (Near London, UK)
I've used Koss earphones for listening to my MP3 player whilst commuting (and in the office when the background hubbub is too distracting) for a few years. I have to admit that they have to put up with a lot of punishment - they get stuffed into a packed bag every time I change train, move away from my desk etc. The cable also gets twiddled with when I'm bored, which is not the recommended way to treat any wiring. As a result of all the punishment, I find I damage the wire after about a year, so I'm on my fourth or fifth set of Koss earphones.

Why do I come back to Koss each time I need a replacement? Quite a few reasons - they are comfortable, they don't fall out, the cable is a reasonable length, the sound quality is good enough for my listening, they are good value, and they block out a reasonable amount of background noise. Some mobile phone users on the train are noisy enough that I still hear them, but for the price these do a reasonable job of muffling the annoying people. There are some aspects that are not so good as well - the packaging seems to be designed to ensure that the maximum damage possible is done to the wires and spare earbuds, both in transit and when unpacking. Also, I find that the sound quality varies from one set of earphones to another. It's always been adequate, but it is variable. Worst of all though on this particular set, is the mute button, which is so sensitive that sound gets turned off to one ear or both with the slightest movement. I find myself constantly having to flick the back of the mute to get the button out again which is really annoying. Assuming I buy Koss again when this set dies, I will make sure that I get one without a mute button, as the design of this one is terrible.

Despite the negatives, these are still good, and for the price are very good value.

1 out of 5 stars The new model sounds terrible   September 29, 2009
N. Clover
I bought a pair of these years ago (the type with the right angled connector) and thought I'd get a spare pair, but the new model sounds terrible compared to my originals, they are seriously lacking bass, even setting treble reduce or bass boost on my ipod doesn't get them anywhere near the glorious pounding deep bass of the original model.
Don't buy these if you like bass, the treble drowns out lower frequencies.
The pair I bought are now residing in the bin.
