GARMIN NUVI 200 SAT NAV February 25, 2010 Mrs. C. Wood (U.K) Excellent value for money. Doesn't always pick up the mapping straight away, but when it does, it's fab. For someone who uses a sat nav infrequently, then it's a good buy.
What a pity it did not work February 21, 2010 Mr. T. J. Hopton (England) Well having read the reviews my mind was made up to get the Gramin 200 widescreen and initally everything seemed fine, I liked the nice and easy layout and the pre-installed places of interest that were available.
The first couple of weeks had me travelling locally and the Gramin worked fine, however I had need to travel from Leeds to Birmingham 2 weeks after I bought the Gramin and this is where I had problems.
I had saved my destination within the Favorites folder and quickly and easily got onto the M1 travelling south, After about 45 mins the Garmin screen froze and the little on screen car to indicate your position did not move again, after another 5 mins the complete screen went blank, but suppisingly the voice comands still continued.
I tried recalculating my route a couple of times but the screen remained blank, even when I switch the machine completely off and restarted I was back into a blank screen. I had to completed my journey by good old fashioned map reading.
My return jouney was exactly the same, my route onto the M1 from the outskirts of Birmingham were perfectly navigated by Garmin, however 30 mins later the screen froze again and then went completely blank, the voice comands continued, but I'd had enough and Garmin was permanently switched off.
This is my first sat nav purchase and understandably I'm very disappointed, Garmin refused to navigate me further that 50 miles down the M1, which is pretty much central England and where you'd expect to get a good sat nav signal?
I hope that I was unlucky and the Garmin was a one off, Amazon have agreed to send me a replacement straight away.
Useful February 6, 2010 R. J. Chambers
This is my first satnav.I was not anticipating using it all that often but was looking for a widescreen model which was not too highly priced.
I have so far been well pleased with this nuvi 200 and was also able to download updated maps from the garmin website after advice from their helpful customer relations dept.
Better than I thought it would be January 29, 2010 Mr. Richard I. Calvert (London, England) My first sat-nav. I bought this on Amazon and I love it! The screen is large, it's easy to operate and it's quick to respond when you touch it. The voice is pleasant, it quickly recalculates routes when you decide to go a different way, battery life is pretty good, lasting around 4 hours although mine didn't come with a mains charger (check if yours does!) just the car cigarette lighter adapter. Luckily I had an adapter (for Motorola bluetooth headset) that worked with it.
Only complaints are that it's sometimes quite slow to find satellites, so you might stick it to the windscreen, set your destination and head off, but it won't realise where you are for 5 minutes into the journey. Other times it does it straightaway, especially if you've been using it more frequently (i use it every 3 weeks or so).
Overall, this is brilliant, much better than using a map and for the price I really felt like I got a bargain.
An exceptional "value for money" item January 27, 2010 FoggyTown (Crawley, England) Haven't had too much opportunity to use it so far but can say that it got me from Crawley to Roehampton without a hitch or glitch. The route self-correction feature is fascinating and invaluable. I'm looking forward to longer trips in future!
