| Customer Reviews: Excellent choice for USB devices January 14, 2009 god14 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm very happy with this unit which I use with an 8Gb USB stick. Access to the CD drive is behind the faceplate which drops down manually, still easy to use but nicely tucked away if you have most music on USB/ipod.
The display is clear with no fancy graphics. It's bright and easy to see in sunlight, yet dims at night when using headlights.
Not many buttons on the face, the radio presets are notably absent, so a bit more button pressing is required than other units. The large rotary control is also a button and joystick affair, which is fine, but can be difficult to access menus when driving unless the road surface is perfect. Actually I think it's a real pain - setting a new radio preset on the move is frustrating - but maybe I shouldn't be doing that anyway.
Thankfully, music navigation is simpler and not a problem on the move.
The USB works really well. My 6Gb of MP3s are quickly scanned (just a second or so) and easily accessed. The track and exact position within the track are remembered after switch off.
The sound is excellent, at least as good as the 5 or 6 units I've had previously and the tuner holds stations well, moving seamlessly to the same RDS station on another frequency when necessary.
Digging around the menus provides a number of options for improving the sound, e.g. equalizers, Loudness (3 levels) and MP3 enhancement. Music tracks can be displayed on 2 lines using tag data or folder names and can show album, artist, track etc.
It just does it all very well and I would definitely recommend it as a player for USB devices (as long as you like blue - the display colour is one thing which is not selectable).
err..It does work with the ipod touch November 30, 2008 Mr. A. Chiappa (uk) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Despite being advertised as not working with any ipods post sept '07, it works fine with my 2nd gen touch...which I was relieved about.
The controls are somewhat fiddly as there are too many functions assigned to too few buttons, making the onscreen ipod control hardly worth it as it takes ages to scroll through even only a couple of gigs of artists - so best to use the ipod itself to choose your track. It's also a bit messy on the lcd display, not as clean and concise looking as my last pioneer. But niggles aside, it sounds great and has enough inputs and outputs to keep me happy. Overall, a good product at a reasonable price i'd say.
