I already have a TomTom satellite navigation system and use it regularly. I rate this as a 5 Star product. I shall soon be travelling extensively throughout Europe by road and recently saw an opportunity to purchase a spare unit quite cheaply at a sale. Although an older model, the unit was still boxed, absolutely complete and appeared to be unused. It would not, however, switch on but, thinking it needed nothing more than charging, I took a chance and bought it.
I tried everything (As did my local store) but the unit simply would not switch on. Eventually, I contacted TomTom Customer Services and told them how the I had obtained the unit and that it was "NOT" under guarantee. Their service was exceptional. Firstly, they sent me a small package containing a cardboard box which, when assembled, fitted my TomTom unit perfectly and would clearly protect the unit whilst in the post. Secondly, the package also contained a Royal Mail "Special Delivery" envelope complete with address and tracking number. Postage and insurance were already paid by TomTom.
Within 24 hours of my posting the unit back to TomTom I received an email confirming receipt and within 7 days I got another unit back. TomTom had REPLACED my unit free of charge with a brand new and exactly the same model and ALL under guarantee!
So for those of you who are contemplating purchasing a TomTom satellite navigation system, I thought you might like to know about this company's follow-up customer services system. They are quite excellent and I hope this message is useful.

I bought this product because we have used a similar model in Europe previously without fault. We live in Turkey, which is one of the countries that is partly covered by the TomTom maps. In this respect TomTom has some work to do to come close to Garmin's coverage. TomTom relies heavily on user generated material to shore up its European-based mapping systems. Not that Garmin's maps are either cheap or subject to user feedback (I also use Garmin). TomTom needs to lift its game in map building on an international level. The 950, which is sold as an international edition needs at least 16GB of space, not 4GB as currently, to handle the extra information. Anyone considering buying this for international usage should get an extra 4GB microSD card as well. The North American and European maps take up most of the internal 4GB storage. Alot about this product is attractive, but too much needs to be upgraded for it to be considered a truely international edition. Outside northern Europe TomTom is pretty light on.

If I had written this review within a couple of weeks of buying - it would have been a very different story.
The 950 worked well to start with. I bought for use in the UK & US - so the dual maps was an important factor in my choice.
Everything was fine for a couple of months - worked as advertised. The search function was useful in helping to find the way.
About 4 weeks ago everything changed. The unit started to play up - would constantly restart every 2 minutes. Try to enter a postcode - it would restart - try to go anywhere - it was useless as it only lived for 2 minutes - of which 90 seconds was it restarting.
I contacted tom-tom support for help - what a disaster.
Took 2 days to respond to my initial contact. Advice was to reset to factory settings. This was not possible as it wouldn't stay alive long enough to get to the menu settings - would just restart.
Followed other suggestions in their advice - but these were no use as the tom-tom desk-top software would crash when accessing the device.
Sent follow up support request - heard nothing for a whole week. I phoned them - but the helpline just said that they are extremely busy and to phone back.
Sent 2 more follow up requests - no reply.
I gave up and returned the item to Amazon for a refund. Amazon were fabulous and everything from their side worked as advertised.
If you buy this unit - I hope that yours doesn't give up on you like mine did - because tom-tom support is hopeless.

to faulty login with capitals instead of small letters..excellent product ( not
solved by Tom tom help!)
Hold Europe, USA and OZ maps on the device at the same time.
Very easy to use.
