Garmin for Ever September 10, 2010 Le Courtois Maltais From 255W to 1390.
Always thaugh that Garmin was the most friendly to use.
The 255W was slow to load and start.
The 1390 still slower than the competitors,
( Doctor Garmin can you do something to speed up the process, and publish a software update?)
But then you start loading where you want to go.... That Full speed.
I like not to follow the direction to see how fast Garmin does give you the new itinerary to follow.
That fast!.
The wide screen is very easy to read.
The key board feet well my big fingers.
One word :
My move was good from one to the other.
My friend who has my old one now, is also very happy with.
The only costly, has been to buy the map from" Malta+ Gozo" who are not included in the Extended Europe Library.
80.00 Euro that the dark point.
But with the GPS coordinates, point me in the exact geographical point I was looking for.
satnav - pleasure to use August 28, 2010 This is the first sat nav i have owned and so far i have been really impressed - the number of arguements i have had with my wife concerning her poor map reading skills have stopped completely, which makes car journeys far more pleasurable :-) I did a fair amount of research before purchasing this and i am more than happy with it. Although i don't do a huge amount of driving, i have used this a number of times to find new locations and have always been given excellent directions. As stated, it does work straight out of the box and while it takes a while to download maps (i think it was a little over an hour, maybe as much as 90 mins) providing you don't sit and watch it, which would be more than a little frustrating, this wasn't a huge issue to me. I am very happy with it and would recommend this to friends. i cannot think of any negatives, other than perhaps it's a little difficult to view the route it selects (perhaps that's just me) but once you are able to see it, you may decide not to follow that particular route if you (personnaly) have better knowledge - ie you know of some recent roadworks for example.
Garmin Nuvi 1390t August 24, 2010 Nat Rhodes 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A great product, really easy to use. The main reason I bought the product is for the junction views, when your on the motorway it shows you the correct lane you need to be in, and it works it's great, such a cool feature. My only criticism is loading new data from garmin's web site is a little complicated. otherwise great product.
Bad Directions August 19, 2010 GaryPod (Notts, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Avoid this SatNav... Have had this unit for a week after having a TomTom for over 4 years. So far I've made a trip from Nottingham to Birmingham and another from Nottingham to London. Nuvi directions are bad. The trip to Birmingham (which I've done countless times) took 20 mins longer than usual despite very little traffic and the Nuvi tried to take me through housing estates with tiny roads etc and on the M6 Toll even though i'd told it to avoid toll roads. On the way to London it was telling me to turn left on a couple of roundabouts when I needed to go right. I don't trust the directions one bit... will be trying to return to swap for a TomTom asap!
Super piece of kit, but some flaws August 14, 2010 J. Hall (London) Bought this before a long road trip to eastern Europe. Shipped with poor mapping for Romania, but the free map update fixed that - contrary to some other reviewers' experience, the map update was smooth. The tendency to crash noted in some forums has occurred a few times, but fortunately mainly in simulation mode. My main gripe has been the traffic warnings. It never activated in the UK; Garmin eventually told me that the antenna I had was for US traffic alerts, and I would need to swap for the UK / EU antenna (which to Garmin's credit, they offered to do for free). Then, lo & behold, after 3-4 hours on the road in France / Belgium, the traffic icon popped up, accurately warning me of delays on the Brussels ring! I'll wait to see if it now works back in the UK.
It would be great if you could add more than one via point to a route; it would be even better if you could load routes to it. Garmin's way of pushing you to more expensive models I guess.
Other than that, it does everything else very very well, and super-fast - 10 out of 10 for usability.
